At 4 AM in the morning, if you
are thinking of taglines and punchlines to go on Facebook and a catchy 140
character tweet post, the symptoms suggest that you work for a digital marketing
agency. Just saying that ‘we’re in the digital era’ will be quite the
understatement. Actually, we are crazy about everything digital! Every brand
wants to stay ahead on the digital platform and every media graduate wants to
get into a digital agency. Funny thing is – this world isn’t as easy as it
seems to be from the outside, but yes you do need to get into the groove of the
madness that is inside it.Once you do, there is no looking back. Probably, after
sometime you will start doing the same work that other professionals do as a
part of the digital media realm.
1)
You are logging in and logging out of
multiple Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Since you have clients biting at your heels for all that must go out on Facebook, you’ll have multiple pages open on Facebook and Twitter at a go. On every tab of Facebook all you do is - you look left for the name of the company, you look right to make sure it’s the organization’s profile you are sending the post from, copy, paste the work sent by creative team and hit post. And then, wait for people to start liking and commenting.
2) Recommending HootSuite and Tweetdeck is your hobby.
Technology has made work
simpler. Simpler means, really simple. Infact, so simple that you start advising
the use of it to almost everyone you meet, so that their work also reduces and becomes much simpler.
3)
Re-reworked
content fills your hard drive.
‘Approved_re-approved_approved.final edits_reworked final fb post.docx’ is
how your file is named! And this is probably how most of your filenames read
when you’re doing your best to make sure that the finest content is going
online. We feel your pain… the pain you go through to arrive at the stickiest
digital content that adheres to brand guidelines even, and is approved by
clients.
4)
You are on
Facebook 24 hours but don’t have time to look into ‘your’ Facebook account.
Hey! I saw you were online! y u no
reply me !’ Almost every friend of yours says that to you when the chat
window pops up, the few times you get the chance tolog in to yourFacebook
account. They don’t know that you were online minutelybrowsing througha series
of client pages that you are managing throughout the day. You are so busy
managing their page that you don’t have time to look at your own page very
often.
5) Multipletabs
of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Quora and blogs are open on your browser.
Perhaps it’s the best job in the world – to get paid for “Facebooking”
all the time. But the tremendous pressure on managing multiple platforms keeps you
on your toes in a digital marketing agency. Facebooking isn’t all that fun anymore
or is it?
6) Mnemonics
and Comic Strips are terms you and
your colleagues understand, but others don’t.
Hey! did you just see the ‘Aunty Acid’meme? The ‘How I Met Your Mother’mnenomic was really funny too. Perhaps, most
will pick up a dictionary and start seaching for the meanings of these terms. These
are terms used by digital marketers… cryptic digital codes that noone else but mighty marketers are
supposed to understand. But this you know,
right?
7 ) Quick turnaround times and quick results are expected at work.
Your life revolves around likes, comments and shares. How many likes have
been generated in 1 hour? Have you commented on positives and tried to fix the
negative comments yet? You need to keep an eagle’s eye on everything that has
happened to your post and reports need to be generated every hour.
8)Any
mistake is a team responsibility, not yours!
An ideal morning starts with a
cup of coffee, some extra sugar and a mind-blowing brainstorming session with
the team. A good idea is something to be shared with the team. So you’re a team
player and a pro at putting in team effort. If what goes online, goes wrong (is
team effort too!) then you’re in this together, if it is appreciated you’re
still in it together. You just learn to be a good team player at all times!
